MOCA is proud to present a conversation between the artist David Hartt and the curator Daisy Desrosiers. This conversation is sparked by the presentation of The Republic, a work by Hartt, screened in partnership with six other international arts organizations as part of the video program A River Waits Reply.
David Hartt’s practice captures, with a perceptive understanding, the relationship between the built environment and its cultural imprints, as well as the social ideals embedded in histories of design and urban development. In the context of this exchange, Desrosiers and Hartt will be discussing the current presentation of The Republic as well as recent work by the artist.

David Hartt creates work that unpacks the social, cultural, and economic complexities of his various subjects. He explores how historic ideas and ideals persist or transform over time. He was born in Montréal in 1967, he lives and works in Philadelphia where he is an Assistant Professor, in the Department of Fine Arts at the University of Pennsylvania.
Daisy Desrosiers is an independent curator and interdisciplinary art historian. She is currently the inaugural director of artist programs at the Lunder Institute for American Art at Colby College, Waterville, Maine.
